Welcome to the 5th Siargao International Gamefishing Tournament!
Thank you for your interest in joining or participating in whatever way in the first ever international sport-fishing tournament to be held in my district. Siargao Island is now famous as a surfing capital of the Philippines and one of the best surfing destinations in the world, but only a few know about its marine riches, underwater beauty and the rare bill fish species that can only be found in the Siargao Island’s waters.
The House of Representatives – First District of Surigao del Norte and the Municipality of Pilar, Siargao Island in cooperation with the Department of Tourism will be staging the first ever invitation sport fishing event in the island, dubbed as: Siargao Invitational Game Fishing Tournament to be held in the town of Pilar, Siargao Island on April 26 - 30, 2012. This will be participated in by more than fifty (50) anglers or game fishing enthusiasts from Manila, Cebu, Davao, Japan, Malaysia and Russia.
Being the Representative of the 1st District of Surigao del Norte, I am honored to host this event that will launch my district particularly the town of Pilar in Siargao Island as a game fishing destination of the Philippines. I wish to introduce through this event the giant fishes such as the Sailfish and Blue Marlin, huge Pacific tuna and barilis (yellow fin tuna), Tanguigue (Spanish mackerel) , Morang (dolphinfish), King Mackerel, Great Barracuda, Swordfish, Marlin and other big and rare species of fish that Siargao Island boasts to have in abundance. This is going to be the first time that the best-kept secret of Siargao’s underwater riches will be shared to the whole country and the world.
I therefore take this opportunity to invite the anglers or game fishing enthusiasts, underwater-sports lover and nature trippers to come and participate in this game fishing event whether by joining the tournament or just by simply watching and enjoying the sites and attractions. We are now sharing the beauty and riches of Siargao Island for you to also take pleasure in. You don’t have to be an angler in order to take part in this event. We also have a lot of activities lined up for tourist and visitors who would like to explore and experience the beauty and natural riches that the Island of Siargao would generously offer.
